Enrol by September 9 to have your say

If you are a Thames local and want to vote in the upcoming fluoridation poll but have yet to enrol or update your details - time is running out.

Coromandel Registrar of Electors Lesley Christophers says eligible locals will need to be correctly enrolled by September 9 in order to vote in the poll – to be held on November 5.

The binding referendum will allow locals to decide whether or not to continue adding fluoride to the Thames water supply. There are currently 8,037 electors are enrolled to vote in the poll.

Earlier in August the Thames-Coromandel District Council voted in favour of going ahead with the referendum, which is being run independently by Election Services.

Lesley says Voting papers for the poll will be sent to all registered electors on the electoral roll from October October 25.

'Only those people who are correctly enrolled will receive voting papers and be able to vote in the poll.

'This means it is really important that all eligible electors enrol and that all registered electors check to see that their enrolment details are up to date.”

Eligible electors can enrol or update their details at any Post Shop, or be sent an enrolment form by calling 0800-36-76-56, or sending a free text with your name and address to 3676.

On the Election Service's website people can also request or download enrolment forms, plus check their enrolment status. The website can be viewed at: www.elections.org.nz

Local can also check their enrolment status by checking the roll at any PostShop, courthouse or public library.

Details of people who are on the unpublished roll are kept confidential, and if you are included on this roll contact the Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske on 0800-922-822.

Alternatively, those on the unpublished roll can contact Thames-Coromandel District Council's Graham McDermott on 07-868-0200 to get information on how to apply to cast a special vote.

If you wish to vote as a non-resident Rate payer you will be required to contact the Electoral Officer.

The Thames Ward Fluoridation Poll will be conducted on Thursday, November 5. To have your say you must make sure that you are enrolled to vote by Wednesday, September 9.
