Council dig for answers over water loss

An investigation into why a number of properties on 15th Avenue, Turret Road, Mayfair Street and Scantlebury Street had their water supply disrupted on Monday is now underway.

Tauranga City Council says water was restored to Turret Road early on Tuesday morning after a pipe failed, and a water cart was stationed at Mayfair Street to pump directly into the water main.

'The tanker had to refill on a number of occasions, hence a disrupted supply through to 1.30am on Wednesday morning when the final repairs were completed,” says a statement from council.

'Parts of Scantlebury Street and 15th Avenue were out of water from 2.30pm on Monday until 1.30am on Wednesday.”

A water tanker was positioned in the area and maintenance contractors delivered 20 litre containers and bottled water to affected customers on Tuesday.

'The repairs were hampered by the depth of the main,” says a council spokesperson.

'Fibre optic communication cables and ducts directly over the water main needed to be protected, as well as high-pressure gas pipes and power cables in the vicinity.”

Meanwhile, the annual mains flushing programme is due to commence during last week of August and will take six weeks to complete.

Is the hole big enough?

Council are the best at digging a hole that is entirely over the top for what is needed, in fact they are likely digging in the wrong place in an attempt to make it all look like they are busy and spending up large from rates. Add to that I just know that the water leaks are not there anyway, they are at Baywave and the Mount Hot Pools, they have had a few digs there and again found nothing but the water keeps on disappearing and of course no one knows why or how, after millions and years and years ... here we go again.
