From Whakatane to Waihi and back

A vehicle stolen in Whakatane and involved in a police pursuit in Waihi has been returned to its owners in Whakatane.

Last Saturday, police were involved in a short pursuit where a stolen vehicle took off down a farm track in Waihi.


A stolen vehicle has been returned to its Whakatane owners.

A police car got stuck, while a four wheel drive managed to continue the chase.

Sergeant Aaron Fraser says officers caught up with the vehicle, which had four youngster from Whakatane and Waihi in it.

The youths are being dealt with by youth aid and the vehicle has been returned to its owners in Whakatane.

Waihi Police also attended an incident where a 57-year-old Auckland driver had fallen asleep by the wheel on State Highway 2, near Campbell Road.

Aaron says the driver was three times over the legal alcohol limit of 250 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.

The man's car was vehicle was impounded as he was also found to be a disqualified driver.

Police continue to urge members of the public to report suspicious activity to their nearest police station.
