NZ Post have confirmed that they are yet to find a Greerton business prepared to take on the suburb's postal and banking services.
New Zealand Post General Manager for Retail Distribution, Tracey Berry, announced last month that they are looking for a local business to deliver the services on its behalf.

'The PostShop at 202 Chadwick Road in the busy Greerton shopping centre offers a full range of postal, banking and courier services,” says Tracey.
'We will continue to offer these services locally, but it may be from within another business.”
'Where the services are offered from will depend on who NZ Post negotiates with to run them. They may stay in the same place or they may move to a different location.
'There's no set timeframe, but in other places it has taken around six months. We will continue to provide services until a new business is found.”
Staff at the shop told customer Bill Harrison they were losing their jobs, but Tracey says they are still working with their people to figure out what the changes mean for them.
NZ Post is looking to retain all services in addition to transactional banking with the new franchise in the Greerton Shopping Centre.
New Zealand Post already works with local businesses in over 130 communities around the country and is confident that this approach will work well in Greerton.
'We are working with a business broker to find the right local business to host these services and it may be that a business opts to move in to the existing PostShop site,” adds Tracey.
Meanwhile, the Cherrywood Post Shop will close on July 24.
NZ Post and Kiwibank business will recommence from the Cherrywood Variety Store from July 27, while the PO Boxes and the Kiwibank ATM will remain in Cherrywood.
More complex banking services like applying for a home loan or opening a new bank account are available from either the Brookfield PostShop at 81 Bellevue Rd, the Tauranga PostShop at 17 Grey St, or via telephone or internet banking, adds Tracey.
The changes follow NZ Post's announcement in 2013 that it will be making changes to its retail network. This is in response to the changing ways Kiwis are choosing to use New Zealand Post's services.

It completely astounds me that this organisation appears hell bent on not providing a service to the customer. The overall Post market has gone from bad to worse. Letters can now take more than a week to go from one part of Tauranga to another because of the 'centralisation' of sorting. NS Post, just take a look at the lines of customers waiting to be serviced to understand what a great asset this is to the community. Greerton expects and warrants better rather than poking the post shop into some other business that will struggle to perform.

Has no interest in service it is all about a profit. Example, the market is shrinking so they put the prices up more, result market shrinks more

OMG this is so sad. have to ask why? however let us hope a solution will come and we can get these services locally. I use both Cherrywood and Greerton.

The PO will want someone to pay for a dead duck business because they can not make it work. Result is greed and some, except it to close and the nearest service will be the CBD, take the free bus mate.

Have NZPost tried the Greerton library as TCC are suckers for punishment and cost is no object to them - will even fill in the gap when all the books 'go west' with a bit of staff retraining.

I think it is so sad if the Post Shop has to go - more to the staff that have been part of our area for years and have been amazing with their service and happy smiling faces - I am totally against this change and they will be waiting with such uncertainty - you all stick together and know that all of Greerton will be behind you all!!!
raw deal for greerton

I fail to see how a existing business can cope with the shear volume for customer. take a look for your self. lines out the door and down the road.served by staff who are highly committed to keeping the wait to a minimum .most of the staff will be replaced eventually with minimum wage un sympathic people.nz post has dropped the ball on this store

of thing happening more and more. Couriers, electronic messaging, internet banking etc etc will eventually be the death knell of post shops and small bank branches across the country. Simple economics really.
MP waste of time.

One could complain to our local MP, but he is part of the crowd that are telling NZ Post to put profit before service.
