Sewage spills failing to clear

Tauranga City Council staff are trying to find out why bacterial levels are failing to fall after two separate sewer leaks about the city.

A fat blockage caused a small sewer overflow into the Judea open drain alongside the Judea sports ground on December 17. The blockage was cleared, the affected area disinfected and health warning signs put up alongside the drain.

Results from samples taken on January 5 show there are still elevated bacterial counts and health warnings remain in place.

'It is unlikely the elevated levels are the result of the original overflow and we will conduct further investigation next week,” says council group communication advisor Alison Clifford.

The Kaitemako Stream also continues to show high bacterial levels after a pipeline blockage on October 28 caused a sewer overflow into the stream.

The high bacteria counts are both above and below the original overflow site and are thought to have another cause.

'We will be working with Public Health to investigate further,” says Alison.

The city system is a nightmare waiting to happen,Come on people we have sewage leaking every month somewhere in Tauranga I think Best thing to do is...is...is Keep spending rate payers money on Mussem and arts projects.Be interesting to see how this problem would be tackled if the Sh@t was litteraly running up hill in Bureta. Martua lol or God forbid Ocean Beach Road.

The project created to fix a sewerage problem that apparently will appear in less than 12 months will take four years to build, something wrong with Bill's maths I think. What a waste of money and we are all going to pay for it VERY DEARLY ....

At fifty paces with ease, come on Bill this Southern Pipeline Project is a joke being played on ratepayers and for what benefit. All it is going to do is move a heap of S**T to the other side of town, then where does it go.
