Saving is as simple as 1, 2, 3

Following on from my previous piece, I am going to continue to discuss the merits of saving.

Last time I spoke about how Benjamin Franklin used his savings to change his life. I want to now address the most used excuse for not saving – ‘I don't have enough money'. I am sorry people, that excuse just does not work for me.

If you were to put your life into stages it can help you analyse the different challenges one can face over a lifetime. I would say there are a few important stages, such as being dependent, being independent but having dependents of your own, and retirement. The important detail for me is that at none of these stages in normal circumstances does anyone have lots of money; it just does not happen. This is just the reality of the demands of the world and our ability to spend what we earn, no matter how much or how little we have. So with the understanding that at any stage in your life you are likely to feel like you have no money, you then should understand throughout all of these life stages that you just have to find a way to save.

If you can get past the obstacle that is the feeling that you have no money and just save anyway, you then provide yourself freedom via additional choices that those without savings simply don't have.
