The art of procrastination

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.
Lin Yutang

The idea of focusing on what is our priority seems to make sense…however, I notice I can catch myself procrastinating and doing the non-essentials, rather than getting down to one of the necessary essentials. The reason, for me, is it may not be the thing I would prefer to do at that moment and so I waste time avoiding it.
It is a bit like swallowing the frog first thing (dealing with the unpalatable, but necessary essential first) so I don't need to avoid it for the rest of the day, by doing the non-essentials.

If you could count up the time you spend avoiding the essentials in your life, rather than applying the wisdom of eliminating the non-essentials, how much time would you gain?
