Western Bay of Plenty people can now donate their preloved curtains to people who need them.
The cutting of the ribbon at the opening of the Curtain Bank Tauranga on December 3.
Curtain Bank is a community initiative that gives curtains away to families in need of warmer homes in the winter months. Not only do the curtains help keep homes warmer, but they also help reduce wastage and money spent on heating.
The official opening of the Curtain Bank Tauranga was on December 3 and about 50 people visited the facility and saw how it operates. Bay of Plenty MP Tony Ryall and mayor Stuart Crosby were at the opening.
Energy Options marketing manager Steve Hanna says there were a number of people at the opening who were interested in spending time at the Curtain Bank and volunteering some of their time to the initiative.
The Curtain Bank Tauranga has already received about 50 sets of curtains but to support the community fully, the Curtain Bank needs to have at least another 100 sets donated.
'The plan for now is to drive as many donations as we can and to build up the relationships with social agencies so that families in the community can get the extra support.”
People who have spare curtains can take them into the Curtain Bank Tauranga at Unit 14, 23 Roxanne Place, Poike. The Energy Options branch is open between business hours 8.30am-5pm Monday-Friday.

A curtain bank?

With a staff and annual running costs of how much? A lovely idea but a dedicated curtain bank sounds ridiculous. One of those clothing bins wouldve been sufficient.
