Work is continuing on the Rangitaiki Floodway widening project.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council says the work is making good progress, with the canal-widening stage 2B nearly completed.

When the whole project finished it will reduce flood pressure on the Rangitaiki River's stopbanks and increase the strength of the flood protection system, says a statement from the council.
'This work is part of a larger project to take excess flood flows from the Rangitaiki River downstream of Te Teko and divert them down the widened floodway canal, east of the river, to the canal's outlet near the Thornton estuary.”
