I sympathise with you regarding our health services. Yes – I paid for both my cataract operations. However, regarding tooth extraction - $435 does seem exorbitant!
Recently my extraction was reduced from $200 to $35 when I produced my Gold Card. That tooth took one and a quarter hours to be removed too! Not all dentists provide this Gold Card price and it's only for extractions so shop around.
With Christmas approaching try to look on the bright side, John. Enjoy all Tauranga has to offer – including free bus travel and remember to ask for the ‘oldies' discount.

Live like a pauper so I can get a gold card / community card no bloody thanks old boy. A gold card does not excuse any professional for ripping the hide of clients who are too well off to have a gold card / community . It is not just the gold card by the way it has to be the Community services card. Every pension is entitled to gold card even the hard workers who saved hard for their retirement. Alastair
