Dev Sangha heard in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday how his two year old daughter was stabbed to death and her body later thrown into a washing machine, while his wife lay in a pool of blood after being stabbed over 100 times.
In court, 24 year old Deepak Nagpal pleaded guilty to the murders of Dev's wife, Ravneet Sangha, and his daughter Anna on June 4.
Dev Sangha, pictured here (left) outside the courthouse, sat emotionless in court as he heard the details of how his wife and daughter were murdered by Deepak Nagpal (right).
Crown prosecutor Rob Ronayne told the court Nagpal's attack on the mother and daughter was a 'determined, frenzied, violent and sustained attack”.
Nagpal was boarding with the Sangha family at their Ngatai Road home in Tauranga before the murder.
Dev was in India attending to business matters when the murders occurred.
The Crown says Nagpal attacked 32 year old Ravneet in the laundry, stabbing her over 100 times.
Shortly before the attack, she sent a text message to a close family friend indicating she had an issue with Nagpal concerning money and had asked him to leave the house.
Ravneet sustained 41 wounds to her head, neck and face. A number of the stab wounds were with such force that it left serrations on her skull.
The Crown says two year old Anna Sangha found her mother lying in a pool of blood in the laundry and fled to her bedroom and then the lounge.
Nagpal found Anna, carried her back to the laundry and stabbed her 10 times in the face and neck.
He then threw her body into the washing machine with his own clothing and turned it on.
The Crown believes it would have taken only two of the wounds to cause Anna's death.
Following the murders, Nagpal took jewellery and ATM cards belonging to the Sangha family.
Over the next two days he accessed the victim's account 23 times and took a total of $6853.
Police located him at a central Auckland address at about midnight on June 6.
Earlier that day Ravneet's body was discovered but Anna's body was not found in the washing machine until June 7.
