Treat for local music lovers

Whakatane music lovers are in for a special treat this month as noted vocalist and teacher Scott Braid leads a showcase of local talent in a one-off show at the Church of St George and St John.

The Broadway and Beyond show is an evening of song, from Broadway favourites to cross-over classical through to contemporary hits, performed by talented Whakatane locals and all in support of Hospice EBOP.

Georgia Herdman, Scott Braid (seated), Ian Lysaght, Devon Neiman, Jean-Danielle Rosset, Flyn Crang-Casey, Bailey Twomey and Eve Lyford.

Scott has studied in London and performed around the world, including touring with Kiri Te Kanawa and understudying a lead role for the Japanese production of The Phantom of the Opera.

He has also been providing vocal coaching for local singers, and his classes have proved so popular that he now visits Whakatane for one day each week and says he is looking forward to showcasing the local talent he has seen here.

The concert will be held on Saturday 7pm at the Church of St George and St John, 30 Domain Road. Tickets are $10 from the Hospice Shops in Whakatane and Opotiki.
