For a third year in a row Maunganui Beach has been voted New Zealand's best beach in the 2015 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards.
Announced this week, The Mount was also named the second best beach in both Australia and New Zealand, and was voted the 25th best beach in the world.

Joining the Mount in NZ's top ten beaches were Ohope Beach, which placed seventh, and Whangamata Beach, which placed ninth.
Now into its third year, the Travellers' Choice award rankings are determined by the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches over a 12-month period.
Tourism Bay of Plenty general manager Rhys Arrowsmith says to win the award for a third year in a row proves what locals love about their home patch.
'It's a fantastic result and we're really excited about it,” says Rhys. 'This [award] also reveals how our visitors feel about the place and is a reflection of the beautiful beach assets we have, from Waihi Beach to Ohope Beach.”
Rhys says the true part of the summer season kicks in around the Christmas/New Year period and official statistics would not be available until later this month.
But based on anecdotal evidence, the Mount has been absolutely booming this summer.
'This is based on accommodation occupancy, response from visitors, and web traffic, which all indicate we're going to have a record summer on our hands,” he says.
Mount Maunganui Mainstreet manager Peter Melgren agrees, saying the cracking stretch of sunny weather has contributed to 'a hell of a lot of visitors” this summer.
'It's wonderful,” says Peter. 'The Mount has a special character and atmosphere of its own, and it's really nice to have confirmed what we as locals all already know and are proud of.”

While Ohope Beach consistently makes the TripAdvisor top 10 beaches list, the popular tourist destination has dropped from fifth in 2014 to seventh this year.
But Whakatane Visitor Information Centre team leader Bruce Erasmus says the two place drop has not been reflected in tourist numbers.
The beach has had a fantastic summer so far and visitor numbers have gone through the roof, says Bruce.
'We've gone up nearly five per cent on domestic tourists,” he says 'but it's our foreign tourists that have climbed by over 19 per cent.
'When you're looking at it overall, we've had one of the best seasons on record.”
At the end of the day Bruce says everyone in Ohope knows theirs is the best beach in all of New Zealand.
'The reality is Ohope is probably the most beautiful, long, straight beach with the best waves in the country,” he adds

Maybe the council might look a bit harder about cleaning up the sea lettuce along the beach then, as there will probably be more tourists coming now. While they are at it they might as well clean up the harbor and Papamoa aswell. Then these places might have a shot at best beach in the country. The mount seems to have all the money spent on it.
