An elderly day care service operating in Tauranga is saved from closure after it was thrown a lifeline from the Presbyterian Church.
A gathering in August of people concerned about the then closure of the Carruth Day Care Centre.
Closure looked to be the only option for Carruth Day Care Centre when its provider, the Oceania Group, withdrew its support in July.
The centre has operated in the city for the past 30 years, providing regular day care for elderly in the region.
With assistance from the Bay of Plenty District Health Board, a new provider was found.
Enliven Tauranga, run by Presbyterian Support Northern, will commence the new service from December 1.
Carruth Day Care Centre will temporarily set up at the Bethlehem Community Church on Moffat Road from December 7.
Friend's of Carruth president, Yvonne Harrison, is relieved the centre no longer has to close.
'This service is badly needed. Thank goodness for the health board helping us.”
'Between us all, we hope that one day we will have premises of our own.”
