A hunter spent 30 hours on his own after he seriously injured his leg in the Urewera National Park.
The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Midway Hut in the park about 3pm to pick up the 30-year-old man, who had fallen and injured his leg.
The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was called to fly an injured hunter to hospital.
'He was on his own and another hunting party found gear at the hut and had not seen anyone else in the area,” says a rescue helicopter spokesperson.
'They started searching for a man and found him further upstream. They stabilised the man and were able to relocate him to the hut where the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was able to land and pick him up.”
The helicopter was used as he had been on his own for 30 hours and due to the remote location.
