Get On The Lawn tomorrow

Calling all beer, food, wine and music lovers! Make sure you get down to Mount Maunganui for the first ever On The Lawn Festival tomorrow.

Thousands of people have already purchased tickets for the inaugural event that's being styled as a ‘picnic for adults', which takes place down at Blake Park from 1pm until 10pm.

For all you last minute Joes who have yet to grab their ticket, festival director Rachelle Duffy is pleased to announce that door sales will also be available on the day.

'We just got told on Wednesday that we're allowed to sell tickets on the door, which is awesome,” says Rachelle.

'We're already over our threshold for ticket sales and can easily cater up to 6000 people on the day.

'It's really an adult picnic, and because it is an R18 event, adults will be able to kick their shoes off and enjoy great beer, food, wine and music without the kiddies.”

Festival goers will be spoiled for choice and the list of vendors and musicians appearing on Thursday would make Dionysus scream out in delight.

Beverage connoisseurs can wet their whistle with a selection of beers and wines from Good George Brewing, Mount Brewing Co., Lake Chalice Wines, Bootleggers Handcrafted Sodas and many more.

Bellies will be kept satisfied with an army of artisan food vendors on site including Miss Moonshines, Tia's Tacos, Minty B - Ice Creamery and Langos Hungarian fried bread puffs to name but a small few.

Topping it off is the great musical line up, including Tiki Taane, Sweet Mix Kids, Hollie Smith, Tahuna Breaks, Ben Merito, Sal Valentine & The Babyshakes, Goodshirt, Joseph & Maia and much more.

On The Lawn runs on a cashless system via AWOP Technology which involves punters being issued with a wristband which they can top up with credit throughout the day at various roaming stations.

Rachelle says On The Lawn provides a high quality but relaxed festival atmosphere that will fill the void left by the now defunct Blues, Brews and Barbeques.

'We saw there was a gap and I think times have changed in terms of people wanting festivals with a nice atmosphere, music, food and vibe,” she adds.

'There was really nothing here that ticked all those boxes in terms of festivals, but we believe On The Lawn will do that.”

Because this is the first time the festival is to be held, Rachelle and the team of organisers are hoping locals will show their support by heading down to tomorrow's event.

The weather is expected to be partly cloudy with a high of 25 degrees, so On The Lawn will be a perfect way to enjoy a beautiful day.

'The weather is going to be really good,” adds Rachelle, 'and I think that will be a key element for people looking forward to spending the day in the sun with good food and a great beer.

'We really hope locals will get behind this event because we want to keep running it in the future and believe it will bring a positive vibrancy to our city with fine cuisine, great music and culture.”

The first ever On The Lawn Festival makes its debut at Blake Park in Mount Maunganui on Thursday, January 8, from 1pm until 10pm. This is an R18 festival.

Tickets start from $44.50 and can be purchased at the door or online through the event's Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/OnTheLawn

seems strange that the local cops and the mayor wanted to close brews, blues and bar b ques down, like everything else associated with booze, yet are allowing another one to start up.Only difference is the ticket prices are more than double, but we still need something like this, only hope the wousers don't close this one down.
