UPDATED 9AM: Traffic is now flowing after a truck and car crash blocked the Tauranga-bound lane near the Bridge Marina this morning.

The crash involved a Ford car and truck and trailer unit and briefly blocked Te Awanui Drive, causing significant traffic build-up.

Both vehicles have since been moved off the road and police are working to establish the cause of the crash.

One lane is blocked after a truck and car have crash on Te Awanui Drive, near the Bridge Marina.

There are no reports of injuries and police have been called to the scene.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says there is significant traffic congestion in the area.

"The Tauranga-bound lane is blocked," he says

"The crash is outside Ballance Agrinutrients, where the three lanes merge into two.

"There will be significant delays and people are asked to avoid the area if possible."

Police are at the scene and are working to move the vehicles off the road as soon as possible.
