An Australian tourist who landed head first onto rocks in the Kauaeranga Valley has died as a result of her injuries.
The 23-year-old woman fell five metres from a steep track while walking in the southern Coromandel valley with her boyfriend on Boxing Day.

Fairfax reports the woman died early Sunday at Waikato Hospital where she had spent eight days in the intensive care unit.
She was airlifted out of the Kauaeranga Valley by the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust who had to winch a medic nearly 24m down to reach the woman.
Her family are now helping police with inquiries.
