Police have named the 24-year-old man from Kerikeri who died when a 4x4 rolled on Papamoa Beach on New Year's day.

The man was Paul Ruben Kasper Kapica.

Emergency services were called to the crash near Harrison's Cut about 8pm on January 1.

The four other people uninjured in the crash are assisting police with inquiries.

The matter has now been referred to the coroner.
