More than 250 swimmers are forecast to set off from Pilot Bay this morning in the 32nd edition of the Round the Mount swim, in what looks set to be a hotly-contested race for the title.
Competition looks fierce in the men's division, with recent podium placers Mount Maunganui swimmer Perry Farrell and Wellington's Ben Campbell-Macdonald both eyeing the title.
The return of the 7.5km distance set aside for 28 participants will also add another level of intrigue to the competition.
In this race, swimmers continue along Mount Main Beach, clockwise around Rabbit Island before returning to the finish line at Main Beach.
The Round the Mount swim starts 8.30am at Pilot Bay on January 4.
Fishing with the family
Keen fishing families are also encouraged to head out to their favourite fishing spots this summer in an effort to bag the biggest fish for The Hits 95FM annual fishing competition.
Sponsored by Broncos Outdoors, The Hits Fishing Competition today invites fishers of all ages to The Hits Beach Bach below Mount Drury before heading out to try and hook the heaviest fish.
People can register for the competition at The Hits Beach Bach on Sunday, January 1 from 10.30am, head to their favourite or secret fishing spots and drop their lines until January 4.
