Pregnant woman punched

Tauranga police are looking for a man in connection with an assault on a pregnant woman in Maxwells Road earlier today.

The woman who is believed to have been punched several times during the dispute was found sitting at the side of the road near Ngatai Road late morning.

Police examine the scene after the woman was found.

The ambulance was called because the woman who's age is unknown, is believed to be five months pregnant. Other details are unavailable as the Tauranga St John ambulance crew that took the woman to hospital has not returned to the station since.

'We are just looking into a bit of a domestic that occurred in Maxwells Road,” says Tauranga police senior sergeant Glenn Saunders.

'We're not sure what transpired yet, or what her condition is. We took her hospital to make sure she's okay. She is pregnant.”

Police know who they are looking for in connection with the alleged assault, says Glenn. It is just a matter of finding him.
