Two helicopters were scrambled to a crash site north of Taupo yesterday following a head-on collision between two vehicles.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 11.30am on Tuesday, and helicopters from Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue and Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue were dispatched to the scene on State Highway 5.
BayTrust Rescue and Greenlea Rescue helicopters flew to the scene on SH5.
Two people were airlifted to Waikato hospital following the incident, which closed the road for a short period and acted as a landing zone for both helicopters.
A 15-year-old male was flown to hospital in a serious condition after suffering multiple injuries.
The helicopters were deployed due to the nature of the injuries and the distance from the incident to the nearest hospital.
