Phil Rudd re-bailed

Phil Rudd has been released on bail once more after appearing in court for breaching his original bail conditions.

The rock icon was arrested on Cameron Road, outside Tauranga Girls' College, yesterday morning after police were called following a fight in the Gate Pa shopping centre at around 10.30am.

The fight happened outside Columbus coffee shop.

Staff say Rudd was involved in a dispute with a 'huge guy”.

'He (Rudd) was all up in the guy's face,” says a waitress. The man pushed Rudd in the chest and he fell backwards over a sign and landed in the café.

'There was food and stuff everywhere,” says another worker. 'It was a pretty eventful morning.”

Rudd was then seen being placed into handcuffs by police before being put into the back of a police car on Cameron Road.

Rudd later appeared in court for breaching his bail conditions – a charge he admitted to.

In Tauranga District Court yesterday, Crown solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones said it was a serious breach because it involved interfering with a witness and he asked that Rudd's bail conditions be amended to include a condition that he not consume any illegal drugs.

Judge Paul Geoghegan asked if there was some connection between drug taking and the breach of bail.

Greg said "Its what you might call erratic behaviour, sir."

Rudd's lawyer Craig Tuck said the breach involved Rudd running into a witness who happened to be in the shop at the same time.

He will be back in court on February 10 on charges of threatening to kill, possession of methamphetamine and possession of cannabis in relation to another incident.

This story should put paid to some of the comments yesterday. It may be that easily identified citizens attract attention, but then they should know what to expect when they step out of line. I wonder what was thought of Kieth Moon of "The Who" years ago? He is now seen as a heroic icon, Go figure??

Heard it all now

A condition of bail is that he not consume any illegal drugs. Just how do you propose to monitor that? One of the most stupid things I have ever heard.
