April McLauchlan opened her door with caution when two men equipped with a large video camera knocked on her door.
Rob and April McLauchlan are taking a cruise on P&O Cruises' Pacific Pearl after winning a Travelcom competition with SunLive.
Caution turned to surprised joy though when she was told she had won a free cruise thanks to Travelcom through the competition she entered on SunLive, which was there to record the moment.
'It sure was a surprise. Tears came to my eyes,” says April.
'Thank you so much. I'm just over the moon.
'I remember entering. I always go on SunLive and one day there was a link to enter this competition. It's amazing.”
The cruise is part of the 49-year old's bucket list.
'I've never done a cruise. It's something I've always wanted to do.
'You have your list of what you want to do one day – my one day has come early.
'It's wonderful.”
The three-night food and wine-themed cruise on P & O Cruises' Pacific Pearl departs Auckland on January 27, 2011.
April, who works as office manager for the Cobble Company and for the family business, Murray's Carpet Services, will be aboard with husband Rob.
'I have a 50th birthday next year in February so this is a great early birthday present.
'We don't get the paper, but every day we get the email from SunLive.
'I've never done a cruise and I saw this competition and thought that would be quite good, three nights, to see what it's like.
Travelcom director Don Menzies says cruising is a wonderful stress-free travel option.
'There are no hassles booking accommodation or restaurants – everything is taken care of.
'It is just like a floating resort.”
Don says it was fantastic to be able to give Travelcoms' winning news to April.
'She was just excellent.”
SunLive CEO Ross Brown was in charge of the camera and says being there to capture the moment is what SunLive is all about.
'We want to give SunLive members an up close and personal account of what is happening in their area.
'We're glad to have been the link to April winning this fantastic cruise from Travelcom.”
The Travelcom SunLive Food and Wine Cruise Competition prize, valued at $1500, includes a free outside cabin for two aboard this cruise. Meals and port taxes are included, with options including a-la-carte main restaurants, buffet or daytime grills.
As well as enjoying the onboard dining options, April and Rob can spoil themselves with a beauty treatment or massage in the Lotus Spa (charges apply), relax by the pool, curl up with a good book, take part in a wine appreciation course, or even work out in the Fitness Centre. Other activities available on board Pacific Pearl include a sport court and whirlpool spas and in the evenings there is live comedy, theatre, nightclubs and cinema.
Staterooms include en suite with complimentary toiletries, air-conditioning and a TV for in-cabin entertainment.
