People working near Liquorland in Cameron Road say the store's bright new colour scheme is turning them green too – but not with envy.
Sean Dorney and Nigel Simpson painting the new Liquorland on Cameron Road.
Painters this week began transforming the store in Liquorland's new corporate colours – an expanse of eye-dazzling green, trimmed with grey.
The aim is to make the store more visible, but it's succeeding a little too well, say employees of neighbouring businesses – all of whom won't be named.
One describes it as, 'offensive to the eyes,” while another complains she can't escape the green because she can see the building through her window and reflected in an interior glass wall behind her.
Another person says the only positive thing about the colour is that it might deter homeless people who sometimes make a nuisance of themselves on grassed area nearby.
But it seems colour appreciation is all in the eye of the beholder, and for commercial painter and decorator Nigel Simpson and his team, green rules.
'The old paint scheme was getting tatty and this new vibrant green will certainly get the building noticed. Some people love it, some hate it, but look around – I reckon it's given the area a bit of life.
'It's not a cheap job either – it's actually very expensive paint. And if anyone wants their house painted the same colour, I'm ready and willing.”
Owner Lisa Parker, who also owns Liquorland at Mount Maunganui, says she's already received a lot of feedback about the new colour.
'It's great though, isn't it?”
The same colour will feature in new staff uniforms, but in a much more subtle way, says Lisa.
'They'll be black with green logo and branding.”

You got to feel for the person who is surrounded by green owing to the glass wall... I mean... that kind of thing would turn anyone crazy. On the up side, at least it's not as hideous as the Countdown green!
Green for go
