The quartet are Owen Moriarty, Tim Watanabe, Christopher Hill and Jane Curry – all accomplished soloists who have each gained acclaim on stages all around the world.
Jane says they are all looking forward to playing the Tauranga Art Gallery, which will be their first appearance in the city since 2012.
'Certainly, yes! It's really great to be able to put together the shows, share music and see beautiful New Zealand,” she says.
Jane adds she has welcomed this latest tour as her love for performing was reinforced following a short holiday recently.
She adds: 'Every other time I've travelled around New Zealand it has been to play a concert and I felt strangely isolated as a visitor rather than connecting with an audience.
'Talking to people afterwards you get a real sense of the place and the people there.”
Formed in 2010, the quartet have kept themselves busy ever since, undertaking numerous tours, playing a multitude of concerts and developing a large following across the country.
Career highlights include the New Zealand premiere of the Concerto Andaluz by Joaquin Rodrigo with the Nelson Symphony, plus concerts in the Adam International Chamber Music Festival, the Southern Lakes Festival of Colour and Christchurch Arts Festival.
Jane says one of the quartet's strengths is its ability to put together a repertoire with a wide appeal for audiences.
'For Tauranga there will be works specifically written for the quartet, plus arrangements of well-known works like Capriccio Espagnol by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov," she says.
'It is a very popular orchestral work which lends itself very well to guitar quartet because of the Spanish flavour and the music it draws on.”
Jane says the quartet have a wonderful repertoire lined up for tonight's performance and hopes to see the Tauranga Art Gallery filled to the brim.
'These concerts are intimate performance spaces and everyone in the quartet is very accessible," she says. "We are very keen to meet and talk with people after our shows.”
