Fire has completely engulfed a house in the Eastern Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

Crews from Taneatua, Edgecumbe and Whakatane are at the scene on Matahi Valley Road.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jarron Phillips says there were people inside the house but they have all managed to escape unharmed.

'There were three LPG bottles involved in fire and firefighters are now cooling them down.

'No one has been injured.”

A fire safety officer has also been called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
