An 8-year-old Whitianga boy with suspected head and abdominal injuries is currently in Waikato Hospital after a skateboarding accident yesterday.

It's believed the boy was out with friends but came into trouble when he fell off his skateboard sometime in the afternoon.

Fairfax reports that the boy hit his head when he fell and landed with his abdomen on the side of the board.

He was taken to a local doctor's surgery but was airlifted soon after to Waikato Hospital via the rescue helicopter due to suspected head and abdominal injuries.

The boy arrived at Waikato at about 7.25pm and was talking but still a little confused and nauseous, says Fairfax.
