Loved Koro of all his grand, great and great great grandchildren. Thank you for the love, laughter, wisdom and guidance…..we miss you Kapu te Rangi.
Koro Les will lie in state at Wairaka Marae, Whakatane from Friday 15th August at 3pm until Saturday 16th August at 9am when he will leave for a Requiem Mass in the St Peter Chanel Catholic Church, King Street, Whakatane at 11am followed by burial in theHillcrest Cemetery. Te ataahua o Tou Kainga e te Ariki toku Atua no te mea e kaikinikini ane taku Manawa mo tou Marae. Takitini aroha te Tangata e whakapona ana i a koe. How lovely is thy dwelling place, O Lord my God, for my heart longs and faints for thy courts. Blessed is the man who trusts in You. Leslie Kaputerangi was a person who never finished his schooling but his ability to use terminology was well suited to the many positions he held in the community of Whakatane and in some the Bay Of Plenty in sport and the church he served in. Les held the position of one of the founders of St Josephs rugby club firstly St. Josephs. Les also represented the Whakatane and a BOP rugby union delegate. Les was a single figure golf player where he left a trophy for a elderly group before he passed away. The greatest pleasure was Leslie's position in the catholic church as a reader, communion server and assisting in the banking. Earlier Less played and represented Poverty Bay in rowing and table tennis. Les also played and taught his children darts.
