Gull is dropping its fuel prices 10 cents a litre from 7am today ahead of the petrol excise tax coming into play on July 1.
The discount promotion will continue until 12pm tomorrow, giving people the chance to fuel up on cheaper rates before the petrol excise tax rise of three cents per litre takes effect.
Gull New Zealand general manager Dave Bodger says with the tax rise on July 1, motorists have one final chance to fill up at Gull and save ahead of higher pricing in the sector.
'Excise taxes form a major part of the overall price of petrol. With prices set to rise because of the excise tax increase, Gull has scheduled this price promotion close to July 1 so that motorists can avoid the impact of higher prices for as long as possible.
'We encourage drivers to remember to bring their Countdown fuel voucher when visiting a Gull manned site, because even more savings are possible.”
Regular fuel [91 Octane] will be $1.99 at unmanned sites and $2.05 at manned sites, while premium fuel [Gull Force 10] will be $2.14 at unmanned sites and $2.20 at manned sites.
Diesel will be priced at $1.33 at unmanned sites and $1.38 at manned sites.

Once again Gull are at least seem to give a damn about fuel prices , and I am equally sure will only raise the price when the excise tax comes into force, what's the bet the "others" ('cept probably for Mobil) will raise theirs over the weekend?....ironically, Shell on Hewletts matched Gull today, can do it if they need to eh?...competition DOES work!
