Bay weather watch lifted

UPDATED 9.11AM: The severe weather watch issued for the Bay of Plenty has been lifted.

The MetService had predicted bursts of heavy rain for the eastern ranges as an active front moved over the South Island and crossed the North Island this morning.

Last week's storms flooded parts of Greerton, Oropi and Ohauiti.

The watch was for the possibility that rainfall accumulations will reach short term warning amounts, for example 60mm in nine hours, about the eastern ranges of Bay of Plenty early Tuesday morning.

Meteorologist John Law says the watch is no longer in force but showers are still expected in the region.

Showers are expected to today, tomorrow and Thursday, with fine weather expected on Friday.

The watch followed on from the storm which tore through the Bay of Plenty last week, causing flooding and slips in many parts of the region.
