Motorists heading home tonight are being told to avoid 15^th Ave in the city if they can, following a vehicle accident causing traffic delays on the busy city road.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford says an accident on 15^th Ave between Devonport Rd and Fraser St is causing delays during peak-hour traffic.

A vehicle accident is causing delays on 15th Ave as residents head home for the day.

'We don't know details of the accident at this stage,” says Shannon. 'There is [police] staff on the scene but we haven't had a report of what's going as yet."

'We're trying to put traffic diversions in place at the moment; it's quite hectic out there by the sounds of it.

'People should avoid 15^th Ave if they could.”

Shannon says traffic diversion will be in place on 15^th Ave and Cameron Rd eastbound.
