A teenage motocross rider has been airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after crashing at an event near Edgecumbe today.

The Tauranga-based TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter was this afternoon called to a motocross event at Manawahe after a 13-year-old rider crashed while competing in a race.

Rescue helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly says the teenager received suspected spinal injuries as a result of the crash.
