Potholes under repair

Repairs will begin this evening to potholes that appeared on State Highway 2 north of Te Puke after this week's severe weather.

Contractors are expected to start resurfacing works, between Atuaroa Bridge and Te Puke Quarry Road on from 6.30pm, weather permitting.

Traffic is being moved across the carriageway and will still flow in both directions while the temporary work is completed. A detour is in place near Atuaroa Bridge for local traffic access. The repair work is expected to be complete by Tuesday June 17.

The Transport Agency's Bay of Plenty highway manager Brett Gliddon says traffic speeds in the area will be lowered to 70km/h to allow contractors to complete temporary repairs.

The Transport Agency is investigating the exact cause of the deterioration which has been made worse by heavy rain, says Brett. The temporary speed limit of 70km/h will remain until a permanent solution is found.

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and apologises for any inconvenience while this important work is carried out.

Roadworks

Here's hoping for a much better result this time. Hardly a month had gone by and the road was already deteriorating. Yes, the latest heavy rain probably didn't help, but the road was also resealed with a completely different surface from Dunlop Road, past Cameron Road with absolutely no damage what so ever.

shocking finish

I rode both ways over this stretch of road today. It was more like off road rather than main highway. Wasn't this part of the road recently up graded and resurfaced? The contractors should never have been paid. Is this why the police work so hard on there fines quota's so that the money can go to paying roading contractors that do shonky work and get paid for it then they get to go back and redo the work after the first decent rain. How may hundreds of thousands is it going to cost the motoring public to put right this shocking piece of road engineering and finishing. The contractors should be embarrassed to put their name to it. If they were a smaller enterprise they would be out of business in a month.

Crap job
