More than 100 ‘warriors' eating huhu grubs, climbing walls and crawling on the muddy ground helped to raise about $3000 to fly a long-time member and her terminally ill husband on their dream honeymoon.

Organised by The Gym, the one-of-a-kind Random Acts of Kindness Warrior Run on June 15 saw 43 teams of four complete a 4km obstacle course around TECT All Terrain Park.

The event is a fundraiser for long-time member of The Gym Jill Voyce and her husband Rod, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. With treatment, Rod has been given a possible nine-12 months to live.

Hearing the news, The Gym owners Lindsay and Lisa Chan set up the Warrior Run to fund a honeymoon in the Pacific Islands for the couple who married at Easter.

Spanning 4km of TECT All Terrain Park, the total 172 participants completed challenges including duck walks with sandbags, tyres, crawling stations, and burpees, says organiser Lyndsay Chan.

'People really seemed to be enjoying the event especially the pig on the spit.

'There was a functional training station, triple peaks, the log flip and then the carry of the log down through the muddy track.

'They had to pick up ‘woody' [a large chunk of wood] which they're bringing round with them everywhere.”

Half-way through the course, the warriors tested their stomachs with a choice of huhu grub, cooked or raw lotus, or a hot chilli.

As participants chomped on the 'delicacies', some described the after taste as "like peanut butter, or chicken".

A raft across the pond concluded the two-hour event.
