Dan's out of Gas

All of All Black Dan Carter's fashion shops are following in the footsteps of the Mount Maunganui branch by closing down.
The Mount Maunganui and Christchurch stores called Gas Clothing closed on June 30, with the whole business now in liquidation, owing creditors more than $1.16 million.

The Gas brand is a thing of the past with Dan Carter's business now in liquidation.

The Newmarket and Wellington stores are now closed, with the Mount Maunganui premises on Maunganui Road now being moved into by Harcourts Real Estate.
Liquidators tried to keep the Wellington store open while they negotiated with a potential buyer, but that fell through and now the whole chain is closed.
There was insufficient turnover to cover the cost of trading while other buyers were sought, says liquidator Paul Clark.
As a secured creditor, Dan himself is among the first of the 30 creditors to be repaid. He's owed $210,000 he put into the venture from Carter Promotions Ltd.
Former World superbike star Aaron Slight is another secured creditor, owed about $191,000.
Carter was a co-director in Gas with Samuel Brooking and a joint shareholder with Samuel and Lucy Brooking.
Creditors owed an estimated total of $1,166,527 include the Inland Revenue Department, which is owed $66,196 in preferential claims. Trade suppliers are owed $571,677.
Last year, a chain of bargain furniture stores co-founded by All Black lock Ali Williams closed because of poor sales.
