City’s boost in budgeting

Tauranga City's budgeting services are set to receive a slice of extra Government funding helping support the community make correct financial decisions.

In the Government's pre-budget announcement an extra $22 million in funding for budgeting services will be set aside throughout the country, something Tauranga MP Simon Bridges welcomes.

Simon Bridges welcomes more funds for budgeting services.

'We've got a number of great organisations providing budgeting services here in Tauranga and this funding will help them continue to support people in our community to manage their finances,” says Simon.

'Money management can be especially tough for people on low incomes, and budgeting services play a vital role helping people get the right skills so they can save for the things that matter and gain financial independence.

The announcement ahead of Finance Minister Bill English's delivery on May 15 will see funding grow from $9m a year to $15m a year by the 2015/2016 financial year, according to Social Development Minister Paula Bennett.

The investment will see a 61 per cent increase in Government funding during the next two years, and will help budgeting services provide an even greater level of support for New Zealanders.

The Ministry of Social Development will work directly with budgeting services on the allocation of funding.

'The work of organisations like Tauranga Budget Advisory Service Incorporated, Ngati Ranginui Iwi Society Incorporated and Te Runanga O Ngai Te Rangi Iwi Trust are helping many people in Tauranga get their finances sorted and get ahead, and this funding will help them even further.

'Supporting people on low incomes with budgeting advice and support is part of our commitment to deliver better public services for Kiwis – one of National's priorities.”

The government is simply playing games. Funding for budget advisory services nationwide has been reduced. But, WOW, suddenly the goodie bag is opened and gifts are abounding in election year.

according to some comments here, the other major crew do not have more hot air than a balloon convention, election year is all about "promises", no party is worse than the other, its just who is more believable, and who can actually deliver.
