Young Tauranga residents will get a sky-high view of the city this weekend thanks to Te Aranui Trust and Classic Flyers ‘Take a Kid Flying' initiative.
From 10am to 2pm on Sunday, twelve deserving Western Bay of Plenty children selected by Te Aranui Trust's Blue Light committee after being nominated by family and friends, will tour the aviation museum and airport tower before heading into the skies.

The event, open to children, aged nine to 13, is designed to reward young people who try exceptionally hard despite personal circumstances.
Te Aranui Trust spokesperson Wendy Nicholls says it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the special young people in the community who 'don't tick the naughty, or the high achiever boxes”.
'It's for the ones that care, the young people that get on with it and are well overdue for special treatment.
'They may be part of a family who has experienced a recent loss, or from a large family who have never had an opportunity like this. Or maybe a neighbour's child that helps you out.”
For many of the children it will be the first time in a plane.
'What an experience and opportunity for them, it will be unforgettable. There are so many young people out there who deserve this treat.”
Eight Whakatane children will also join the 12 winners on the day, as part of the competition.
