A man who raped a woman at a party in Ohope in January has been sentenced to four years and three months jail.

Teina Ariki Rongonui, 18, was sentenced in Tauranga District Court yesterday after earlier pleading guilty to one count of to sexual violation by rape.

Rongonui was sentenced in Tauranga District Court.

Rongonui was arrested and charged on January 21 in relation to a sexual assault at a party on January 18.

His early guilty plea, and youth and his remorse were factors enabling Judge Thomas Ingram to reduce the sentence from a starting point of seven years.
