MetService has lifted heavy rain warnings for Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty west of Kawerau, Gisborne and Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Strong wind warnings have been lifted for the Kaimai Ranges, Waikato near the Kaimais and Thames.

Tauranga City Council says there has been some minor storm water flooding, downed trees and wind damage across the region – but nothing that has caused significant damage.

According to MetService, 84mm of rain was the highest recorded in the region at Tauranga, and wind gusts peaked at 90kph just off the coast yesterday.

Reports of damage will be dealt with through the city council and Western Bay of Plenty District Councils' after hours call centres.

All calls are logged and are sent to contractors to action as soon as possible where needed.

Tauranga City residents should phone the Council on 07-577 7000

Western Bay of Plenty residents should call 07-571 8008.

The two Councils' incident management teams have now been stood down.

Police clear Moturiki (Leisure) Island as strong winds increased on Saturday night.

Hey, our Council staff and their amazing contractors have done amazing work to keep our roads open and functional. They probably have worked all through the night without hesitation. Good work guys and gals. Where would we be without you all. Big clean-up right through the area, so thank goodness we didn't get hit as hard as they thought we would ! Bravo

Has anyone noticed any oil washed up on the beaches because on Saturday while sitting out on the tip of Moturiki watching the swell there was a very strong smell of oil
