An unconscious man has been pulled from Lake Taupo following a mayday call from a boat this afternoon.

Police says a small group of friends were on the boat when the called was made at about 2.30pm.

'At one stage a man from the group was pulled from the water unconscious,” says a statement from police.

'The boat made it to shore where an overseas tourist administered first aid before the man was taken to Taupo Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.”

Taupo Police are investigating the matter.
