New Georgie Pie taste

Avid pie lover Grant Duffield's ‘bring back Georgie Pie' campaign is paying off with not one, but two iconic pies back on the menu.

From 10.30am today, the chicken and vegetable pie will be available from McDonald's outlets in Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Bayfair.

Avid pie lover Grant Duffield sinks his teeth into a steak, mince and cheese pie at Tauranga's launch of the pie, while McDonald's Tauranga franchisee John Warder looks over his shoulder.

It will retail for the same $4.50 price as the steak, mince and cheese pie, which launched last October.

The nationwide launch has pleased Whakatane man Grant Duffield, who personally collected signatures across the North Island in an effort to bring back his favourite restaurant last year.

'We're slowly getting more and more pies so that's great. A lot of people wanted to see the chicken and vegetable pie back according to McDonalds,” says Grant.

'My campaigning finally paid off.”

Today's launch is especially exciting for Grant, who will also see the steak, mince and cheese pie launched in his hometown along with the chicken and vegetable.

'It's definitely good to see it in my hometown because I've fought so hard for it,” says Grant.

'It's just great to be able to get the pie here in Whakatane rather than travelling to various different places to get it.”

McDonald's Tauranga franchisee John Warder says the chicken and vegetable pie will be made available at all McDonald's restaurants already selling the steak, mince and cheese pie. It's estimated to be more than 100 nationwide.

Disgusting

It can't taste any worse than the existing sweaty old sock flavour pie. I don't think I've ever put anything in my mouth as foul as that before. That it was a measly third filled was a con, yet simultaneously a relief given the taste.

Great Memories
