What's on Today? Weet-Bix try

Good morning Sunners,

There is plenty on today to make your Sunday an eventful one.

'Give it a go'

Road closures are in place for some Tauranga streets for the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon today.

Devonport Road will be closed to traffic from First Avenue to Eleventh Avenue from 6am to 3pm today.

More than 1000 children and teenagers are signed up to compete in today's triathlon.

The annual event – this year boasting rugby legend Jonah Lomu as its ambassador – sees Tauranga entrants tackle a run and cycle around Memorial Park and a short swim in the nearby outdoor 25 metre pool on Sunday.

Children will be cheered on by Olympians and world champion cyclists Alison Shanks, BMX rider Sarah Walker and New Zealand cross triathlon champion Olly Shaw.

Every entrant who finishes the triathlon, regardless of placing or time, receives a medal.

The event venue opens 7am and children need to be checked-in by 8.15am to participate, with the first race beginning at 9am.

The event is at Memorial Park in Tauranga on Sunday, February 23.

'Show Off Your Wheels'

Bay motorists will be treated to a display of some of the region's finest and most interesting wheels today.

Organised as a fundraiser by Mount Maunganui Rotary Club, the Show Off Your Wheels event is just that – a chance for car-lovers to show off the vehicles they love at Mount Maunganui College.

About 175 vehicles are confirmed for individual sites, with more registrations still coming in.

The show runs at Mount Maunganui College on Sunday, February 23, from 10am-4.30pm. For details, visit www.showoffyourwheelsautoshow.com

Visitors are encouraged to use parking at the college or Omanu Primary School.
