Water skier breaks arm

A Tauranga teenager is nursing a broken arm in Rotorua Hospital following a water skiing accident on Lake Tarawera.

The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the lake, near the Hot Water beach area, to airlift the 12-year-old girl at 3pm on Saturday.

BayTrust Rescue Helicopter pilot Barry Vincent says the teen suffered the injury after falling during a water ski run.

'Due to the nature of the injury and the location, the rescue helicopter was used to deliver medical assistance and then fly her to Rotorua Hospital,” says Barry.

She was transported in a comfortable condition.
