NZ flag: time for change?

Debate has stirred this week after Prime Minister John Key admitted he would like to see the New Zealand flag changed.

The Prime Minister suggested he would prefer a silver fern over our current flag featuring the Union Jack and Southern Cross.

He plans to discuss the proposal with Cabinet and says a referendum on the design could be part of this year's general election.

If a referendum goes ahead the Government would decide on a design and put it to a public vote.

The Prime Minister said that while changing it seems simple, deciding on the design could be a difficult task.

One a design was decided on it would simply be a case of changing the flag legislation to introduce the new flag.

What do you think? Time for a change? Vote here.

SunLive asked members of the Tauranga community what they thought about changing the flag.

This is just Key gone brand mad. Surely it should be a white fern on a pure green background with 100% in the top right corner...in black of course. That should show the rest of the world we're all grown up now.
