A mechanical fault is being attributed to the cause of a single vehicle crash where a car hit a lamp post on Tamatea Arikinui Drive.

Emergency services responded to the crash at about 4.30pm, near the off ramp to Takitimu Drive, after reports of the car going off the road.

A SunLive reporter at the scene says it appears the car has driven into the lamp post before veering off the road into the vegetation.

The impact of the crash caused the lights to dislodge from the post, smashing on to the road, says the reporter.

Tauranga Police Sergeant Nigel Ramsden says no one is injured as a result of the crash, believed to be caused by a mechanical fault in the car.

Police and St Ambulance attended the scene but no one was taken to hospital.
