Young dance crews from around the Western Bay will be celebrating their passion for hip hop at the first PROJECT Crew Dance Competition at Baycourt, May 13.
The competition, organised by Urban Dance, aims to allow young people to engage in creative expression in a supportive and positive environment that encourages participation and enjoyment.
It is open to all school aged students in the Bay of Plenty and there are primary, intermediate and secondary school divisions.
Former world hip hop champions Sweet & Sour will also perform at the event, along with Hamilton crews Vogue and Anonymous.
Sarah Martin from Urban Dance says hip hop is a very popular dance form in the Bay.
"It provides a valuable recreational activity which encourages and supports their physical, mental and social well-being," says Sarah.
She hopes to get as many people as possible along to the event to encourage the future development of the region's street dance scene through classes and workshops.
Doors open 6pm and show starts 6.30pm. Tickets are available at TicketDirect. Ticket costs are adults $18, youth aged 0-18 $10, family (two adults and two youths) $50 and seniors $16.
