SunLive Dog Book Competition

The new book by Pukehina's Wendy Graydon not only helps dog owners train their dogs but also benefits the SPCA.
She says, How to Train Your Barking, Howling, Jumping Up, Pulling on the Lead and Won't Come When it's Called Dog, offers simple and easy techniques to help people change their own behaviour first – and consequently that of their dog.

'Dog training is simple, and as soon as you complicate it you are heading for trouble,” says Wendy.
'Whatever you teach your dog at home it will continue to do out there in the wide, wide world.
'Dogs are not vindictive creatures. They do not sit home all day working out how to do some damage to your home or your belongings because you had the audacity to leave them behind.
'So when you come home and discover Fido has pulled all the washing off the line, you might consider changing your wash day to when you are at home and can do some training around this issue.”
Wendy, who has been running a mobile dog training business for 10 years, uses wit and humour to show dog owners how to take control of troublesome situations such as dogs pulling on their leads, barking at everything and tearing your home to shreds. The book also features cartoons.
Key points which are covered in the book include the importance of becoming your dog's leader, how to dish out food, rewards and consequences, and how to effectively communicate with your dog.
The book, RRP $25, is available from Poppies and Books a Plenty or can be purchased online at www.cleverdogs.co.nz
One dollar from each book sold will be donated to the SPCA.
