Running early for an appointment is a rare thing, but turned out to be a real positive this week as I had time to rush in to Bel Mondo, Italian and Mediterranean Foods on St John Street.

With a dinner party imminent, it was great timing. I filled the basket with all my favourite things, including these lovely Annese artichokes - a great addition to my antipasto platter, with their lovely rustic Italian flavour and their glistening leaves. The gorgeous Italian sugared almonds are a perfect simple end to the dinner party, served with coffee and a liqueur.
