Emergency services were called to the event just after 12.30pm today after a woman driver from out of town was injured in a crash involving two of the ride-on mowers in the midday race.

Race day organiser Bronwyn Carter confirmed the crash.

'Two machines came together and one of them rode up over the other machine and landed on her.”

Bronwyn has not been updated on the woman's condition but says the rider has been transported to hospital by St John Ambulance.

She says the woman and her husband are happy for the race to resume after the lunch break at 1.30pm.

A Tauranga St John spokesperson says the 56-year-old woman has been taken to Tauranga Hospital's Emergency Department with moderate injuries.

About 30 racers took to the track this afternoon – a number Bronwyn is 'very pleased” with having exceeded last year's numbers.
